International air travel was said to be recovering.

Guenter Eser of West Germany, director general of the International Air Transport Assn., said that airline business has recovered over the past two months from a slump touched off partly by fears of terrorism and the Chernobyl nuclear accident. The turnaround began in September when carriers began cutting flight capacity in response to the lack of passengers. The industry, which has showed a profit in the last two years, should again be in the black next year, “if nothing unforeseen happens,” Eser said. Eser spoke at IATA’s annual conference in Montreux, Switzerland.
