The California Nurses Assn., representing 5,000 nurses statewide at University of California hospitals and student health centers, said it has requested state mediation after contract negotiations deadlocked over the weekend. UC officials deny that an impasse exists, and a spokeswoman said management has not yet presented its “final pay offer.” The union, which has a no-strike clause in its current contract, is asking time-and-a-half pay for holidays, more paid education leave time and wage parity systemwide with nurses at UC San Francisco Medical Center.
