Indiana Gives Mallory Extension

Indiana football Coach Bill Mallory was given a three-year contract extension Friday, just one day after Leon Burtnett resigned under pressure as coach at arch-rival Purdue.
Mallory originally had signed a five-year contract to coach the Hoosiers. Friday’s signing in effect gave him a new five-year contract, two from the original and three from the extension.
Mallory, who was hired when Sam Wyche resigned to coach the Cincinnati Bengals, needs just one more victory to give Indiana its first winning football season since 1980, when the Hoosiers were 6-5.
This year’s team won its first four games and has a 5-3 record overall, 2-3 in the Big Ten, going into today’s game at Michigan State.
