Southern Section Water Polo : McClain’s Overtime Goal Leads Marina

Mike McClain’s goal with 1:57 left in the third overtime period Friday gave Marina High School a 7-6 victory over Buena Park in the first round of the Southern Section 4-A water polo playoffs at Marina.
Marina’s Dean Annigoni led all scorers with three goals. The Vikings, the Sunset League champions, are 19-9.
In other 4-A games:
Corona del Mar 20, Santa Ana Valley 4--The No. 1-seeded Sea Kings will play Fullerton in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
Sunny Hills 16, Edison 7--Senior Bill Slope scored five goals and junior Jose Santiago added three for the Lancers (17-6) at Fullerton. Sunny Hills will play Foothill in the quarterfinals.
Villa Park 9, Sonora 6--Craig Ekley, Trevor Kirschner and Aaron Malo each scored two goals to lead the Century League champion Spartans (20-5) at Villa Park. The Spartans will play University in the quarterfinals.
University 7, Millikan 3--The Trojans, the third-place representative from the Sea View League, beat the Moore League champion Rams at Long Beach.
In 2-A action:
Costa Mesa 13, El Rancho 11--Shane Coons scored four goals, Mike Kennedy had three and Brad Krutzcamp and Tony Litwak two each as the No. 1-seeded Mustangs won at Pico Rivera. Costa Mesa, the champion of the Pacific Coast League, is 18-10.
Don Lugo 15, Valencia 8--The Tigers, the Orange League champions, lost at Chino.
El Segundo 11, Magnolia 7--The Sentinels, the second-place representative from the Orange League, lost at Anaheim.
South Pasadena 15, La Quinta 12--The Tigers (15-10), third in the Rio Hondo League, were led by Geoff Cunningham with six goals and John Clark with four. David Lee had five goals for La Quinta.
