A leftist Peruvian newspaper reported that the bodies of nearly 50 people who were missing after their arrest by soldiers and police had been found in a mass grave. El Nuevo Diaro said the remains of workers, women and students were uncovered by relatives at Erapata, 35 miles from Ayacucho, the state capital. Ayacucho police said they had not heard of the reported discovery of the mass grave. Prosecutors have filed charges against military officers for responsibility in the killing and burying of victims in two mass graves found in 1984 and 1985 in the nearby hamlet of Pucayacu.
