Glendale Coach Passes on the Potato and Picks the Pony for Bowl Game

Glendale College Coach Jim Sartoris had a pleasant decision to make this week. Should his team play in the Pony Bowl or the Potato Bowl?
Glendale, the No. 1 junior college football team in the nation, 10-0 and 6-0 in the Western State Conference, earned the right to ponder the two invitations after a memorable regular season.
“It is a great opportunity to have a chance to be invited to two fine bowl games,” Sartoris said. “We decided the Pony Bowl is the best situation so we accepted it.”
Glendale will face Riverside Community College, the No. 10 team in the nation, and No. 2 behind Glendale in the Southern California poll.
Riverside (8-1) has captured the Mission Conference but still has one game left to play.
“It’s going to be an outstanding game and we are really looking forward to it. It is rare to have the chance to play for a national championship,” Sartoris said. “Riverside is a great team and we want to be matched up with the very best.”
The game is scheduled for Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. in Costa Mesa’s LeBard Stadium.
