U.S. Missionary, Daughter Found Slain in Liberia

WASHINGTON — An American missionary and her young daughter were found murdered today at their home in the African mining town of Yekepa, Liberia, the Southern Baptist Convention said.
A knife that appeared to be the murder weapon was found near bodies of Libby Senter, 47, a native of Cliffside, N.C., and Rachel Senter, 10, said Robert O’Brien, a spokesman for the Southern Baptists’ Foreign Mission Board in Richmond, Va.
Senter’s husband, George, and teen-age son, Philip, were in the Liberian capital of Monrovia, which is about four hours away, when the bodies were discovered, O’Brien said.
O’Brien said he was not aware of a motive in the slayings.
Church records said the family moved to Liberia in 1980. Senter’s husband is an “evangelist and church-starter” in Yekepa, a mining town in eastern Liberia, O’Brien said.
