William J. Battison has been named president of Westwood One Inc., Los Angeles, and will continue as chief financial officer of the company, which operates the Westwood One Radio Networks and the Mutual Broadcasting System.
The post of president had been vacant since Arthur Levine resigned last year to pursue other interests.
Battison joined the company in November, 1985, as executive vice president and was appointed chief financial officer last April. Battison oversaw the acquisition of the Mutual Broadcasting System last December, directed Westwood One’s $58-million equity offering last May and a $100-million convertible debenture offering in October. “Bill Battison’s promotion to president of Westwood One Inc. is a reflection of the tremendous job he has done in steering the company through a very important phase in its development,” Chairman Norman Pattiz said in a statement.
