Up to a foot of snow buried parts of the upper Great Lakes, while gale-force winds whipped upstate New York and the upper Midwest. In Michigan, 12 inches of snow fell at Houghton, nine inches at Sault Ste. Marie, and six inches at Marquette. At least two traffic deaths were reported in two separate accidents in the state. Low temperatures were in the 20s, teens and single digits from the upper Great Lakes and Ohio Valley across to the central and northern Plains and into the Plateau. The gale winds pushed wind chills far below zero.
