The Nation : FAA Weighs Drug Rules

The government said it is weighing new federal regulations to fight drug and alcohol abuse in the aviation industry. Included among the measures considered by the Federal Aviation Administration are the random testing of pilots and flight attendants, pre-employment screening and prohibition of drug use when a worker is off duty. The FAA is also considering requiring worker assistance programs for drug and alcohol abusers and permitting employers to test workers when there is a “reasonable suspicion” they are taking drugs or abusing alcohol.
