A 21-year-old man was shot to death and another man was wounded early Saturday in the Logan Heights area during an apparent gang-related altercation, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Pedro Castaneda, 21, of the 4800 block of Guymon Street, died of a single gunshot wound to the chest at UC San Diego Medical Center shortly after being shot, Police Sgt. Micki Farrell said.
Police officers responding to a report of shots fired in the 1900 block of Logan Avenue about 2:25 a.m. found Castaneda lying on the sidewalk and Ignacio Yanez, 21, nearby with a superficial wound to his leg. Yanez was taken to the hospital and released.
Farrell said Castaneda was a member of the Market Street Gang, and according to witnesses, he was at a gang-related fight a short time before police arrived.
No suspects are in custody, and homicide detectives are continuing their investigation, Farrell said.
