Prep Soccer : Esperanza Loses First Game in Three Years, 1-0

Canyon High School boys’ soccer team ended Esperanza’s three-year, 61-game streak without a loss Saturday by beating the Aztecs, 1-0, for third place in the Orange Tournament at Chapman College.
The score came 15 minutes into the game when Esperanza fullback John Byers’ attempted to kick a Canyon pass away from the goal area. Instead, the ball rolled into the Aztecs’ net.
In other Orange Tournament action:
La Serna 1, Dominguez 0--After no score in regulation, La Serna held a 3-2 lead in overtime penalty kicks to win the championship.
Brea-Olinda 4, Sanitago 0--Tony Catalano scored two goals and Michael Oziminki and Bill Cruz each added one more to clinch the consolation championship.
Mission Viejo 3, Orange 1--The Diablos finished fifth with the victory.

In the Cerritos Tournament:
La Quinta 2, Chaminade 1--Kristin Harkins scored two goals in the first 15 minutes to lead the Aztecs (8-1-1) at Cerritos High School. Elizabeth Foley scored late in the first half for Chaminade (3-1-1).
La Quinta 6, Fullerton 0--Harkins scored three goals to lead La Quinta. Other scorers for La Quinta were Lara Crowley (2) and Kristin Daily (1). La Quinta will play Canyon in quarterfinals Monday.
