Six thousand gallons of sewage overflowed from a sewer and spilled into Mission Bay on Monday, prompting a quarantine of DeAnza Cove, health officials reported.
The spill occurred shortly after 11 a.m. alongside East Mission Bay Drive after a sewer pipe became overloaded with runoff, said Lyn Wallis of the county Department of Health Services. Wallis said city officials posted signs around DeAnza Cove warning against swimming.
Investigators are to begin sampling today to determine when bacteria levels in the cove drop enough to allow swimming and other sports.
