FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Two women who allegedly started a bar fire that killed two men while trying to settle a $5 bet over whether Christmas tree decorations were fireproof were ordered held without bond Thursday.
Larimer County District Judge James Hiatt denied bond for Tina Gellner and Rita Ohlman and scheduled a hearing for Jan. 29. The women are charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, arson and conspiracy.
Documents filed in court showed that Gellner told police she and Ohlman made a $5 bet Dec. 27 over whether decorations on the tree in People’s Bar were fireproof. The documents indicated that Gellner lit a garland on the tree with a cigarette to settle the bet.
