A new Superior Court judge has been assigned to hear the retrial of Sagon Penn, which is expected to begin Jan. 20.
Judge David M. Gill was unable to hear the Penn retrial because of a family illness.
Judge J. Richard Haden assigned Judge J. Morgan Lester to the case Friday and asked that both attorneys meet with the new judge to brief him.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael G. Carpenter said he hoped assigning a new judge would not delay the proceedings.
