The manager of a Canoga Park restaurant was shot to death in an argument with a security guard who was then overpowered and seriously beaten by two witnesses, Los Angeles police said Saturday.
The incident at Tacos Canoga restaurant, 7249 Canoga Ave., occurred about 8 p.m. Friday when a dispute broke out between restaurant manager Rodrigo Tovar, 30, and the security guard, said Officer Don Matthews.
Matthews said Tovar was shot twice by the guard and, as he lay wounded, the witnesses jumped the suspect and overpowered him. The witnesses were not identified.
Tovar was dead by the time police arrived, the officer said. The security guard, whose name was not released, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. Matthews said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder and transferred Saturday night to County-USC Medical Center.
