The Region : Rehiring at Zoo Appealed
The City of Los Angeles has appealed the decision of a federal district court judge reinstating zoo director Warren D. Thomas. The request to overturn a preliminary injunction handed down last month by U.S. District Judge William J. Rea was filed with the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Deputy City Atty. David Hotchkiss said the decision to appeal was made with the approval of the Department of Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners as well as department head James E. Hadaway. Hadaway fired Thomas last June for alleged mismanagement. Thomas sued the city for reinstatement and Rea ruled in his favor pending a trial on the question. The trial is expected to be held later this year.
