The human-powered aircraft Michelob Light Eagle is expected to begin making endurance test flights at the Edwards Air Force Base on Jan. 21, weather permitting, said John Langford, leader of the MIT team that built the plane. Lois McCallin, the craft’s pilot, hopes to pedal it for 30 miles on a triangular course around the dry lake bed, eclipsing the record of 22 miles set in 1979 in a flight across the English Channel. The craft has made several short test flights since Jan. 2, but further tests have been impeded by rains that have turned the lake bed into a mudhole.
