Kilauea Lava Enough to Bury U.S. Capital

VOLCANO, Hawaii — Dallas L. Peck of the U.S. Geological Survey has calculated that the lava spewed by Kilauea volcano since it began its eruption four years ago would be enough to cover Washington, D.C., to a depth of 12 feet.
