Two gunmen burst into a hotel in the Irish Republic and killed two men linked to the outlawed Irish National Liberation Army, a splinter group of the Irish Republican Army. The INLA later claimed responsibility, and there was speculation that the attack was linked to a feud within the group, which is fighting to drive the British out of Northern Ireland. Police said that two other men were injured in the attack, in Drogheda, 30 miles from Dublin. Police identified the slain men as Thomas Power, 32, and John O’Reilly, 26, both of Belfast.
