Record high consolidated net income for the December, 1986, quarter was posted by Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, the firm reported. The current period’s results include the operations of Delta’s subsidiary, Western Air Lines, for the last 13 days of December, which contributed $3.07 million in operating income and $675,000 in net income to the consolidated results. A spokesman attributed results for the quarter to improved passenger traffic, a slowdown in the decline in the passenger mile yield and a 37-cent drop in the average fuel cost per gallon.
