Falklands Penguin Deaths to Be Probed

PORT STANLEY, Falkland Islands — Two British scientists will travel to the Falkland Islands next month to investigate the mysterious death of thousands of penguins.
The deaths, which occurred between February and May last year, were attributed by many islanders to overfishing by foreign trawlers, which they say robbed the birds of their natural food supply, especially squid. But British Agriculture Ministry veterinarian Ian Keymer, who was sent samples of the dead birds, suspects a disease called puffinosis.
