Two Bettors Are Perfect in Pick Nine and Earn $724,812 Each at Santa Anita

Two bettors selected all nine winners in Thursday’s $2 Pick Nine at Santa Anita to end a record 21-day carryover period.
Each ticket was worth $724,812, the fourth-highest payoff for this type of betting since it was introduced at Santa Anita in October 1985, but no one immediately cashed either ticket.
The carryover since the meeting opened Dec. 26 was $1,258,952.07, and another $238,578 was wagered in the Pick Nine Thursday.
The winning numbers were 2-2-4-7-7-4 or 12-4-1-4. The highest win price was $18.40 on Vindolanda in the fourth race.
Corridor Key, ridden by Bill Shoemaker and running in his first race since August, won the $45,000 feature race by one length over Catane, ridden by Ray Sibille.
The winner ran 1 1/8 miles on the grass in 1:49 and paid $7, $5 and $3.40. Catane paid $4.80 and $3, and Narghile paid $3.20 to show.
