Miami Football Officials Schedule Tougher Opponents Early in Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami has announced three changes in its 1987 football schedule which result in the stacking of five of its seven top opponents early in the season.
While the list of opponents does not vary from the previously announced schedule, three dates have been changed. The Arkansas contest in Little Rock has been moved from Sept. 12 to Sept. 26. The home game with Toledo has been changed from Sept. 26 to Nov. 21. And the home game with Virginia Tech originally scheduled for Nov. 21 has been moved to Nov. 14.
The changes result in an open date earlier in the season--Sept. 12 instead of Nov. 14.
But the delay of the Toledo game also gives the Hurricanes a tough first five games against Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Florida State and Maryland.
Three less highly regarded teams are then strung together, with games against Cincinnati, East Carolina and Miami of Ohio. The Hurricanes finish against Virginia Tech, a bowl team last season, Toledo and traditionally strong Notre Dame.
