Hard to believe, but “Top Gun” does not rule both Billboard magazine videocassette charts. The cassette debuted last week at No. 1 on the sales chart--no surprise considering that it costs only $26.95 and that Paramount has sold a record 2.5 million copies to retailers and distributors--and it stayed there this week. But it’s only No. 3 on the rental chart. Even so, “Top Gun”--which soared up to its rental position in just two weeks--is expected to rise to the top of the rental chart within the next few weeks. The new No. 1 rental is “Aliens,” which has been in the Top Five for all its three weeks on the chart. “Back to School,” the most popular rental for the last few weeks, dropped to No. 2. The hot new rental is “52 Pick-Up,” the sex-and-violence thriller starring Roy Scheider, which debuted at No. 14.
