A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a hit-and-run motorist Wednesday night in Saugus, and a suspect was arrested about an hour later, the California Highway Patrol reported Thursday.
The suspect, Stephen Reed, 30, of Saugus, was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide after reappearing at the accident site on Hasley Canyon Road, about two miles north of the Old Road, Officer Ralph Elvira said.
Authorities do not know why Reed, whose pickup truck is believed to be the one that broadsided the motorcyclist in the 7:30 p.m. accident, returned to the site. The cyclist’s identity has not been determined.
After the accident, Elvira said, Reed drove a passenger injured in his truck to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. Gene Rodberg, 19, also of Saugus, was treated for scalp cuts and released, a nurses’ supervisor said.
Reed was ordered to take a drunk-driving test. Results of the test were not released. Reed was being held at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department substation in the Santa Clarita Valley in lieu of $2,500.
