STOWE, Vt. — Maria von Trapp, 82, whose flight from Nazi-occupied Austria inspired the stage and screen musical “The Sound of Music,” is critically ill in a Vermont hospital, her family said today.
Johanes von Trapp, the youngest of the family’s 10 children, said she was at Copley Hospital in nearby Morrisville but declined to give any details of her illness. Maria von Trapp married Baron Georg von Trapp in 1927. He already had seven children and she bore him three more. He died in 1947.
