Countywide : Committee for Disabled Receives Housing Award

The ACCESS Housing Subcommittee was recently honored by the National Organization on Disability with a $1,000 award for developing the county’s first accessible and affordable apartment complex for disabled tenants.

In addition to the building, ACCESS--Action Committee Concerned for Equal Services--was recognized for an emergency facility it helped establish to provide meals and shelter for homeless disabled persons, and for creating an emergency fund for disabled persons who need housing.

The award was sponsored by the Westinghouse Electric Corp. and the National Organization on Disability, a private organization that promotes opportunities and participation of citizens with disabilities.
