Puente to Defend State Title Tonight

Greg Puente will defend his California super featherweight title tonight against Ramon Marchena in a scheduled 12-round fight at the Irvine Marriott.
This will be the second meeting between Puente (9-2-4) of El Monte and Marchena (16-4-1) of Westminster. Marchena won a 10-round split decision Feb. 23, also at the Irvine Marriott, in a non-title fight.
The scheduled card also will feature a pair of heavyweight bouts. Rod Smith of Eugene, Ore., will meet Dwain Bonds of Detroit, and Jim Ashard of Eugene will meet Richard Harrell of Los Angeles.
More than 400 tickets will go on sale at the hotel today.
