A West German businessman described by prosecutors as one of the world’s leading “techno-bandits” was sentenced today to 15 years in prison for exporting high technology to Soviet Bloc nations.
U.S. District Judge Alicemarie H. Stotler also fined Werner Bruchhausen $15,000. “Quite honestly, I don’t think he’s remorseful in the usual sense of being sorry he did it,” Stotler said. “I think he’s sorry he got caught.” The government had recommended that Bruchhausen be imprisoned for at least 20 years.
