BOSTON — More than 25,000 New Englanders took to the streets Sunday in the area’s 18th annual Walk for Hunger to raise money to feed the needy.
Officials at Project Bread, organizers of the event, said their Walk for Hunger is the nation’s largest single walking event and the largest annual one-day fund-raiser to fight hunger within the United States.
Officials at Project Bread said the walk had raised $2.5 million, an increase of more than 25% from the previous year.
The money will help support more than 200 local soup kitchens, shelters and food programs.
