NEW YORK — A two-day, $23-million auction of contemporary art at Sotheby’s galleries ended today with a score of world auction records, including $3.63 million for Willem de Kooning’s “Pink Lady,” tying the record for a contemporary painting and a painting by a living artist.
Jackson Pollock’s “November 26, 1950,” consigned for sale by Hugh Hefner, went for $2.57 million, an auction record for a Pollock. “Pink Lady,” consigned by Stanley K. Sheinbaum, a Los Angeles economist, brought the same price as Jasper Johns’ “Out the Window,” which set a record last November.
