A man was killed almost instantly and another man critically injured when the car they were riding in crashed into a building, police said Wednesday.
Abel Cancino Camarillo, 50, of Placentia, who was a passenger in the car, was declared dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the car, Ruben Hernandez, 25, also of Placentia, was in critical condition at UCI Medical Center, where he was taken by helicopter after the crash, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. Monday, officers said.
Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter.
Hernandez was then booked into the hospital’s jail ward, according to Lt. Darryll Thomann. He said Hernandez was clinging to life, with a severed spine and numerous other injuries.
Hernandez lost control of his car, struck a curb and careened into KDR Manufacturing Co., 125 E. Crowther Ave., Placentia.
Police said no one was inside the building at the time of the crash.
