Two Former Aztecs Sign With the Chargers

SAN DIEGO — Two former San Diego State stars, safety Steve Lauter and defensive tackle Duane Pettit, have signed with the Chargers as free agents and have begun workouts for the team’s mini-camp later this month.
Last season Lauter, 6-feet 2-inches and 205 pounds, was a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection and Pettit, 6-4 and 250, had 41 tackles. Also signing was Emil Slovacek (6-2, 300) of Stephen F. Austin.
