The chairman of a Senate subcommittee plans to subpoena Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III’s financial partner as part of an expanding and previously undisclosed probe of Wedtech Corp., the Washington Post reported. The Senate Governmental Affairs subcommittee began the inquiry about eight weeks ago into the Bronx company’s acquisition of multimillion-dollar, no-bid defense contracts during the first term of the Reagan Administration, the Post said. Subcommittee members told the newspaper that committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) now has decided to look into the role of the White House and former presidential aides Meese and Lyn Nofziger to determine if political influence was used in the awarding of contracts.
