Former President Salvador Jorge Blanco of the Dominican Republic has suffered a heart attack while being sheltered in the Venezuelan ambassador’s home but will be allowed to go to the United States for treatment, President Joaquin Balaguer said. Jorge Blanco, 57, his wife and two children took refuge in the Venezuelan ambassador’s official residence on April 30, one day after a criminal judge issued an order for his arrest on corruption charges. Jorge Blanco, who did not seek reelection in May, 1986, has asked for political asylum in Venezuela.
