‘Overriding Democracy’
After watching the first several days of the Iran-contra hearings the one thing I find most interesting is that the individuals involved in this scandal claim a passionate desire for democracy in Central America, all the while working to circumvent our own democratic process in order to achieve this “patriotic” goal. They also solicited and received funds from Communist countries to “fight communism” in the region, not to mention the profits made from arms sales to a terrorist nation.
Which are we to believe? That these are patriots of democracy, or businessmen working in their own self-interests? I still believe actions speak louder than words.
