BEIJING — North Korean President Kim Il Sung left for home Monday after a five-day visit to China that both sides hailed as a success.
At a farewell lunch in Tianjin given by Premier Zhao Ziyang, Kim said he agreed with Zhao that the visit had further developed the friendship between the two countries, the New China News Agency said.
Western diplomats said Kim’s visit seems to have revived some of the traditional warmth of the Beijing-Pyongyang relationship, which cooled in recent years as North Korea’s contacts with the Soviet Union grew closer.
