LONDON — Sir Rudolf Bing, the former director of the New York Metropolitan Opera who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, disappeared again while out to buy cigarettes but was found after 15 hours, police said today.
Police sources said Bing, 85, was found by a policeman wandering confused in a rough London neighborhood at 2 a.m.--five miles from the inexpensive hotel where he has been staying with his 47-year-old bride, Carroll, in King’s Cross--another rough London neighborhood.
It was the second time in nine days that the British-born Bing had been missing for hours after going out to get a pack of cigarettes.
