The brilliant comment in your editorial pages by Paul Johnson is a very sensible analysis of the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka. As a Sri Lankan living in the United States, I thank you on behalf of my country for publishing such an article for your readers to get a correct perspective of the real situation in Sri Lanka.
As our learned writer suggests, Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi should not have taken a hasty step in sending his Mirage jets to Sri Lanka without thinking as a decent statesman coming as a descendant of late Pandit Nehru, respected both by Indians and Sri Lankans equally.
