KABC-TV Channel 7 newscaster Paul Moyer emerged the winner this week in a three-way bidding war for his services and reportedly became the first $1-million-a-year anchor on Los Angeles television.
Moyer, who has been a fixture of Southern California broadcast news since 1974 and a KABC newsman since 1979, was wooed by both of KABC’s chief competitors, KCBS-TV Channel 2 and KNBC-TV Channel 4. He chose to re-sign a multiyear contract with Channel 7. In addition to his daily 5 and 11 p.m. anchor duties, Moyer will begin making regular appearances on the ABC Network programs “Good Morning America” and “World News This Morning.”
