WONG ROLES

I am deeply sorry that Anna May Wong was not given an opportunity to portray characters other than those of the stereotypical “Oriental villainess” (“Anna May Wong and the Dragon-Lady Syndrome,” by Edward Sakamoto, July 12).
Thanks to Hollywood, audiences were and are being cheated out of seeing Asians portrayed in a positive, beneficial light. Hollywood is doing a great disservice to talented, able actors of Asian descent. When will Hollywood realize that Asian actors are capable of portraying doctors, lawyers, cops and patriarchs of families?
I, personally, am sick and tired of seeing Asian actors portray only waiters in Chinese restaurants and leaders of gangs. Get with it, Hollywood.
