‘Choosing Single Parenthood’

Re “Women Choosing Single Parenthood,” View, June 12:
It was an innocuous little notice buried on Page 11, a simple announcement for an organization committed to the support and promotion of “single women who have or are considering having children on their own.”
How does it turn out, single (unmarried) women raising children on their own? The answer comes back in articles, books and mountains of statistics: In the next generation, there will be more unwed pregnancies, alienated non-producing men, criminality, drugs and hopelessness.
Shallow, emotionally stunted, narcissistic women have always existed, but only in recent decades have they been promoted in prestigious American newspapers. By giving this organization legitimacy, The Times helps to promote and destigmatize illegitimacy.
