Poindexter, North and the Congressional Committee

Despite the expenditure of several millions of taxpayers’ dollars, a voyeur’s trip through President Reagan’s private diary, and thousands of hours interrogating dozens of witnesses, the Democratic-controlled House and Senate have failed in their desperate attempt to prove that the President knew and approved of the diversion of funds to the contras. This has to be, for many Democrats, the most disheartening event of their political careers.
So what did this exercise in futility prove? For certain it proved that the rabid, drool-running-down-their-chin haters of the President still hate him and believe he is guilty. It also proves that some Democrats are willing to go to any length to discredit our President. We should think of ourselves as Americans, not as Democrats and Republicans.
