Curren Beats Gerulaitis in Quarterfinal Match

Kevin Curren, ranked 20th in the world, defeated Vitas Gerulaitis, 7-6, 6-1, Friday night in the quarterfinals of the $75,000 Hartmarx tennis tournament at the John Wayne Tennis Club in Newport Beach.
John Fitzgerald, ranked 180th, beat Phil Dent, 6-4, 6-2, in another quarterfinal match.
In today’s semifinals, Richey Reneberg will play Curren at noon, and Pat Cash will take on Fitzgerald in a match to follow.
