The United States and Japan begin talks...

The United States and Japan begin talks today about sanctions imposed against Japan in April for alleged violations of a semiconductor trade agreement. They will deal with an official Japanese complaint that the U.S. tariffs violate the fair trading rules of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The meeting is to be “just the first consultation” between the two countries and no decisions are expected, said Michael Samuels, top U.S. trade representative in Geneva.
