Irwin L. Jacobs is considering a takeover bid for Allegheny International, the money-losing industrial conglomerate best known for its Sunbeam and Oster brand appliances in which he and Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad have recently taken a 7.9% stake. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission detailing its sizable position in Pittsburgh-based Allegheny, the investment group said: “The purchasers anticipate that they might under certain circumstances consider seeking control of the company.” The filing did not elaborate on the circumstances.
