About 300 firefighters across the county battled three separate brush fires for several hours Monday, officials reported.
A 2-acre brush fire in Tecolote Canyon Natural Park was extinguished by 40 San Diego firefighters Monday without damage to nearby homes, officials said.
The fire came within 100 feet of 10 homes on Mt. Alifan and Mt. Blackburn drives, but ice plant growing around the backs of the homes prevented the fire from spreading to the structures, according to San Diego Fire Department spokesman Larry Cooke.
No one was injured and no structures were burned in the fire, which started at 9:30 a.m. and was contained half an hour later, Cooke said.
Later in the morning, a 180-acre brush fire in Ramona was fought by 140 firefighters, California Department of Forestry officials reported.
No injuries or structure damage was caused by the fire, which was contained by 2 p.m. near California 78 and Weekend Villa Road, according CDF spokesman Carol Stein.
The California Department of Forestry, United States Forestry Department and Ramona Fire Department were assisted by two helicopters, 16 engines and four teams of inmates from the California Department of Corrections, Stein said.
A third blaze was sparked when a truck pulled over on Interstate 5 after catching fire. It burned 45 acres of brush near Carmel Valley Road.
No structures or livestock were threatened by the fire, according to Robert Sumler, a spokesman for the San Diego Fire Department.
The fire was blown eastward by winds of 8 m.p.h. toward El Camino Real, Sumler said.
About 100 firefighters contained the 1:45 p.m. fire within five hours, Sumler said.
