One person was killed and at least two critically injured when their cars collided head-on near a Sylmar intersection late Friday, authorities said.
Vince M. Reed, 30, of Sylmar was driving his car north on Eldridge Avenue near Hubbard Street at 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a car that was southbound, Los Angeles Police Officer Bill Wilkins said.
Reed was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Darren A. Bernier, 21, of Sylmar, who was driving the other car, suffered broken bones, Wilkins said. He was listed in critical but stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills.
Bernier’s passengers, Eric Seguilin, 21, of Sylmar and Linda Moore, 16, of Reseda, were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Seguilin was listed in critical condition, a hospital spokesman said.
Police said an odor of alcohol was evident in both vehicles. Wilkins said Bernier had been convicted twice of drunk driving, and was driving with a suspended license.
He said officials would ask the Los Angeles city attorney’s office to file charges against Bernier.
