PHOENIX — A U.S. sailor who was serving aboard the aircraft carrier Constellation is missing at sea in the Middle East, Navy officials confirmed Saturday.
Air and sea crews mounted a search for Martin Sturdy, 20, an enlisted man from Phoenix, Petty Officer Charles Sellers of the Phoenix Navy Reserve Center said Friday. Sellers said it was possible for a seaman to simply be overlooked aboard a ship with 5,500 crew members.
Sturdy did not show up for morning formation early Friday, Sellers said.
